OK, it’s more like 60 minutes to get from Los Angeles to Catalina Island by ferry boat. But for the price of an hour, you can experience a place of beauty, both natural and architecturally, and a lifestyle and pace decidedly removed from fastlane LA. And, while this might surprise you, it’s not financially unattainable to live there, if you were looking for less vacation, more total life change. In fact there are a number of amazing condos all under $800k:
Santa Catalina Island is usually known just as Catalina Island (or just “Catalina”) and is almost universally thought of as a place to visit, not live. Perhaps the perception is that such a place would be well out of reach of most home buyers. But it’s not. Just look at these condos! In Malibu or various Orange County beach-side communities they could cost double what they do on the island. So if you’re looking for a slower pace, some respite from the highways and smog, don’t write this island off. It’s just on the horizon, yet worlds apart.
